NFL Munich Game 2024: Panthers Win in Overtime Thriller

Carolina edges New York 20-17 – Giants undone by late mistakes

Munich once again turned into the epicenter of American football in Germany, as the fourth official NFL regular-season game on German soil delivered drama until the final whistle. The Carolina Panthers defeated the New York Giants 20-17 in a nail-biting overtime showdown. A game full of swings, standout performances – and costly errors.

Panthers strike early

Carolina took control in the first half. Quarterback Bryce Young connected with rookie tight end Ja'Tavion Sanders for the game’s opening touchdown, and kicker Eddy Pineiro nailed a 53-yard field goal to make it 10-0. Meanwhile, New York’s offense sputtered: a missed field goal and an interception thrown by Daniel Jones summed up a rough start.

Tracy sparks the Giants' comeback

Coming out of halftime, Giants rookie RB Tyrone Tracy broke loose for a 32-yard touchdown to close the gap. But the Panthers responded immediately – Chuba Hubbard, who was virtually unstoppable all day, powered into the end zone for a 17-7 lead. Daniel Jones kept New York alive, running in a score himself to bring it to 14-17.

Turnovers tell the story

The game remained chaotic: Hubbard fumbled after a short pass, giving the Giants a golden opportunity. But Jones threw another interception in the red zone. Despite that, the Giants tied the game with a clutch 42-yard field goal to force overtime. Yet right on the first play in OT, Tracy fumbled – and Pineiro sealed the deal from 36 yards out.

Conclusion: Panthers stay calm, Giants collapse late

With the win, Carolina improves to 3-7, while New York falls to 2-8. It was a wild, emotional clash in a sold-out Allianz Arena – and in the end, the Panthers kept their cool when it mattered most.

Volunteer Veronika in front of the Allianz Arena on gameday

No Game Day without volunteers – and Veronika Riepl was the perfect example of how much heart goes into it

The Munich native supported the Game Day Experience outside Allianz Arena, managing the photo booth and creating unforgettable moments for fans. With Panthers mascot Sir Purr, cheerleaders, and a marching band all around her, Veronika was right in the middle of the action—and as a surprise, she even got to watch the game live in the stadium after her shift. Pure goosebumps when over 70,000 fans sang "Country Roads" in unison.

Veronika’s passion and energy reflect what volunteering is all about: joy, community, and being part of something bigger. For her, the NFL weekend in Munich became an unforgettable highlight.

Buccaneers celebrate historic win in Munich - Brady leads the way for Tampa Bay

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and superstar quarterback Tom Brady rocked the Allianz Arena. At Germany’s first official NFL game, Brady and his team defeated the Seattle Seahawks 21:16. The 45-year-old not only threw the first touchdown pass in a regular season game in Germany, but also set a new record by becoming the first quarterback to win games in four different countries.

    An unforgettable football spectacle

The NFL game in Munich delivered pure spectacle – with fans, celebrities, and unforgettable moments. In front of 69,811 roaring fans, including FC Bayern stars like Thomas Müller, Leroy Sané and Serge Gnabry, as well as tennis Olympic champion Alexander Zverev, the stadium transformed into a football cauldron. Despite officially being the home team, the Bucs had to fight hard: both teams had large fanbases in the stands, and even Brady was met with occasional boos and whistles.

Brady shines – but not without flaws

Brady was solid and efficient, throwing for 258 yards and two touchdowns – including a 31-yard pass to Julio Jones. However, not everything went smoothly: on a trick play, a pass from Leonard Fournette to Brady ended in a slip and an interception. Later, Brady himself threw a pick that allowed the Seahawks to come back into the game.

    Seattle finds momentum too late

The Seahawks offense, one of the league’s best until then, struggled to get going. Only in the fourth quarter did quarterback Geno Smith and his receivers start connecting. Two late touchdown passes brought Seattle within striking distance – but it wasn’t enough to turn the game around.

A festival of football around the game

The NFL went all-in for this historic day. German rapper Cro fired up the fans before kickoff, while the halftime show featured a flag football game – with the IOC watching closely, as flag football is set to debut at the 2028 Olympics. Leading up to the event, Munich was buzzing with NFL activities, and hours before the game, tens of thousands gathered around the stadium at the fan experience area.

A statement for football in Germany

The atmosphere, the show, and the game itself sent a clear message: Germany is ready for football. With Tampa Bay’s win and Brady’s record-breaking performance, the first NFL regular-season game in Germany was a complete success – and left fans hungry for more.
